December 2005 Newsletter Part 2

In this newsletter we have part two of the article "Accomplishing your Goals by Not Doing," as well as updates on the website and Medical Qigong classes.

Accomplishing Your Goals Part 2

In the last newsletter I wrote about the idea of using the principle of “doing by not doing” to accomplish our goals.

The key idea with this is that if we devote our energy and effort to excelling at the process of what we are doing, the end results will take care of themselves. By easing into the natural movement of the process we can let go of the result, and in doing so, accomplish our goals without thinking about them.

Applying this to a specific health goal is just the same as any other goal. We begin with a strong intention, a good foundation and whatever support we need. We then enter totally into the process, until it is not something that is separate from us but a natural part of our lives.

In other words, set the process into motion, integrate it into life through daily work and then let the changes unfold naturally. Don’t check each day on the health problem to see if it is different. Instead focus on the elements of health: proper nourishment & breathing, daily exercise, a harmonious relationship with nature and meaningful interactions with other people. Chinese herbal medicine, Qigong, meditation, and so on can further support the process, until there is a current throughout your life that guides you naturally towards health.

Although this is a simple and practical approach that I have seen work countless times, I don’t mean to imply that it is easy. There will always be ups and downs, like a river that is calm in some places and full of rapids in other places. However, the whole idea with the principle of “doing by not doing” is that we can work on developing something within ourselves that will carry us along steadily, whether it be through still waters or rapids. After all, the river will take care of itself.
